I used to hate being a freshman and having a boner then having to stand for the stupid ass pledge that we were forced to do... Ohh and our teachers made us stand... not a choice thing which I know is wrong now. : )

before you go on a rant like this and embarrass yourself on youtube, i suggest you read "to the flag: the unlikely history of the pledge of allegiance" or any other book that justifies in a clear and accurate way the history of the pledge of allegiance. then you might know why and for what reason the "under god" thing was added.

I'm an atheist but the pledge of allegiance doesn't bother me. The $40,000 the government keeps sucking out of my wallet every year - THAT'S what bothers me. Sometimes I feel like a slave to the Speaker of the House. How can a citizen be free if he can not keep the fruit of his labor?

And what's history have to do with it? Would it be OK that the pledge include "on flat earth" or a reference to the geocentric model or whatever bullshit for historical reasons?

Over here in Santa Barbara, none of the schools required anyone to do the pledge of allegiance...

So, if they "went out of their way to separate church from state", then why did they gladly accept the Pledge of Allegiance as our nations offficial pledge?

The pledge didn't originally have the words "under god" in it. In fact, not even the Constitution has those words. When the President pledges to uphold the Constitution, he says "under god" but he's not required too. It's not part of the law.

Jessica, you are a smart girl. You have charisma, and an influence. It's almost ironic to me that you spend your time fighting for these causes. Do you have ANY idea how much good you could be doing for the world if you would channel all this energy into something more beneficial?

---I don't want you to let them bring you down or put out your flame, but i also don't like seeing you waste your fire on something so trivial as the pledge. Let them believe in god. Who gives a shit what they believe? I really wish you were focusing on a broader spectrum, because you could make a lot of difference in the world.
