otamtotamtamm ::: Favorites you re so ignorant. You refer to ancient greek concepts to define democracy. Today democracy is primarily defined by a regime that respects minority rights. A democratic constitution prevents minority opression strictly. And a constitutional court (Us equivalent is the US Supreme Court) reviews the laws that are made by majority. That court nullifies the laws if they are against minority rights. freesk8 ::: Favorites I've read De Tocquville. I'm afriad it is you who do not know what democracy is. Pure democracy is when the majority rules, not when minorities' rights are defended. These are opposites, my friend. When the white majority can vote to suppress a black minority, that is democracy in action. We live in a republic with some democratic elements, not a pure democracy.
