It's just shoddy journalism thats all. I'm a grown up! give me the facts & let me decide for myself whats important and whats not important. Know what I mean? I don't want the BBC or Melvyn Bragg or whoever deciding for me that I don't need to know that Doug Yule was ever in the band ???

I hear what you're saying. And I completely agree with the idea that there was no VU in anything but name post Loaded. But to not mention Doug at all is like, say, doing a docu on the Stones '68-72 period and deciding not to mention Mick Taylor 'at all' ??

Doug did NOT play the drums his brother(Billy?) did and while Doug Yule SHOULD have been mentioned in the Doc there was no Velvet Underground in ANYTHING but name post-Loaded. Without Lou there is NO VU because he wrote almost everything. And by the way I'm far more a Cale fan than a Reed fan.

I'm not trying to justify that Doug Yule's contribution should be ignored or anything, Candy Says and Jesus wouldn't be the same without his contributions, I'm just trying to explain why his isn't mentioned in the documentary. He represents a period in the VU's history that many would rather forget entirely.

As far as I know, 'The Strokes' was inspired by Loaded. I read Julian Casablancas's article in Rolling Stones that their main influences for their first album were 'Loaded' and The Beach Boys (Made in USA). That makes 'one' band at least.

Yeah Loaded was all Lou Reed penned as far as I know. But Doug Yule didn't just sing them he played almost all the instruments incl drums. Having said that I would have loved to have heard Rock n Roll with Moe playing drums. That would be special!

Squeeze could be justifiably omitted from the bands history (not just because its crap)because at that stage it was just Doug Yule a bunch of other guys. But Loaded was mostly Lou Reed penned songs & Sterling & Moe (to a lesser degree)were on it.

Yes, Fair enough. All of that may be true! (Although I disagree about Loaded. Rock n Roll & Sweet Jane are fuckin classics. Squeeze, ahem, well the less said the better). But my question is why write him (very deliberately) out of the bands history?? It's supposed to be a "Documentary". Even if the documentary gave him bad press at least it makes it a more accurate 'document'. Whether you rate him or not he was a band member not a session musician there4 he shld have been at least "mentioned".
